The 1936 Riddle Sheehan Ten Shillings is extremely rare as an individual note. We would be lucky to sight one Uncirculated example at auction every year.
A consecutive pair of Riddle Sheehan Ten Shillings is rarer again. Statistically, we might see a pair at auction once every two to three years.
The rarity of this banknote – and the extreme rarity of the pair – has underpinned considerable growth.
Quality
The two notes are crisp, their colours vibrant and original and are presented in flawless Uncirculated quality.
Historically significant
The 1936 Riddle Sheehan Ten Shillings is a distinguished note … and for the following reasons:
- Distinctively different from its predecessors, this Ten Shillings introduced a brilliant new (orange) colour - and a new size - into the George V Australian banknote series.
- With the passing of George V in 1936, this note signalled the end of an era, the very last Ten Shillings to depict George V as the reigning monarch. Notes that define an era are highly valued.
- Furthermore it was the very last Ten Shillings to bear the signatures of Ernest C Riddle and Harold J Sheehan.
